    0:07, to me, 2000 seemed kinda early for type 7's to be in the "teal-scheme or puke-teal scheme". Did they start repainting them into that scheme in the late 90s? I thought they started in 2000, but I could be wrong. This scheme was found on the type 7.5's (before overhaul) and is also found on the type 8's. This was done to match the 7.5's and the type 8's.

    0:07, OMG it's 3604!!! I have a 5 feet tall painting of the same train hung on my wall in my room. It's so big, it looks like it could run you over. A famous artist painted it for me for my 15th birthday in 2019. He's a family friend who lives in Winthrop. The original photo was taken in 1989 at the old Boston Garden/North Station on Canal Street in Boston, MA. A month later, me and my dad went to Gov Center to watch trains and somehow saw the exact same train 30 years later, but newly restored. Quite an awesome day it was.😊 Still remember the look on my face when I turned around and saw the train pull up and it's almost 5 years later.

    At least there was footage of Boeing LRV's in 2000. There were only footage of them back in 1976-1999. 55 were refurbished although they were still scrapping them. Leaving 32 active in 2005. September 1, 1976-March 16, 2007.

    • @ericschwartz2062
      @ericschwartz2062 4 месяца назад

      The SLRVs began being scrapped as early as 1987. By the end of 1988, 19 cars had been removed from the property, the majority of them being wreck victims. Another 28 cars were scrapped in 1991-92 and by December 1992, only 97 cars remained, which meant less than half of the fleet was gone at that point. As 100 new first-generation Type 7 LRVs were being delivered by the Japanese-engineering firm Kinki Sharyo in 1986-88, the T started to slowly retire and scrap them as they had a lot of problems as well as being very unreliable cars during the early days of their service lives. The Type 7’s had foot pedal controls like the PCCs and had the looks of the Canadian Light Rail Vehicle (CLRV), the Boeings and the PCCs. The T began to plan for the Type 7 LRVs in 1983 and they said the new trolleys would have a more “streamlined-design” and solid-center articulation unlike the Boeings, CLRVs and PCCs. By September 2005, only 30 Boeings were left and the Type 8’s replaced the remainder of them in the late 2000s. An additional order of 20 cars was ordered and delivered in 1997; this was done to meet increased ridership demands. The T retired every Boeing LRV by 2007.

    One thing I like about 'those days' is (although it's black and white so I could be wrong but...) the lack of visual chaos. Not too many shops, no neon, no plastic, just a wooden shop window with a simple sign.

    This wonderful video just makes me think, "Wouldn'tTfL love to have this fully electric public transport system, including the trams of course, running in London in 2022?". The idiocy of scrapping all of our perfectly functioning electric public transport systems across the whole of the UK in the 50s and 60s now looks complete madness, and the reason was that diesel fuel was cheap and would last for ever - what a joke!. OK, the overhead (for trolleys) and the rails+overhead (for trams) needed some money spent on them, but compare that with the cost now of going electric from nothing, having got rid of the lot. Stupidity.

    At 1:20 the trolleybus should have turned left along Cross Deep......whoops he's gone wrong there! If you were going to Teddington (from Twickenham) now, you'd turn left at this junction. That splendidly imposing building at that junction was the former cinema - long since gone and replaced by an unremarkable building. Think the cinema lasted until about 1980, before being demolished a couple of years after that.

    Thanks so much for putting this video together. Brilliant ! The music is spot on for the period too. It was criminal that they were scrapped when they were. Even more so in this so-called green/eco era ! Other countries modernise, we just scrap things. Will we never learn ?
